Bridging the Generations. Katie Funk Wiebe. (Herald Press, 2001, 228 pp.) -- Our choice for "Book of the Year for Older Adults"
On the back cover, this commentary:
Society today is increasingly segregated by age. Rarely do three or four generations live in the same town, much less the same house. Nursing homes, retirement communities, work, school, and day care keep the ages separated and in their own worlds. Regrettably, the church is following these same trends toward greater age segregation. Children, youth, young adult, adult, and senior saints attend their own Sunday school classes, even worship services.
But a church without generational interconnectedness cannot thrive. With her usual bite and fiery style, Katie Funk Wiebe helps all ages to rethink the way we define each other and to change attitudes, so we can bring all generations closer together. In so doing, Wiebe positions us to become the spiritual family of God.
